A Heartwarming Visit: Wandering Women’s Impact on the Born to be Awesome Initiative

In December 2023, the Born to be Awesome initiative had the honor of hosting a group of remarkable women from the USA, known as the Wandering Women. Their visit to Kenya from December 4th for a 4-day tour was filled with compassion, giving, and a shared vision of empowerment and support for vulnerable communities.

The group, accompanied by Born to be Awesome Founder, Ms. Jemimah Nyarondia, embarked on a journey to witness firsthand the transformative work being done by the organization. The aim of their visit was to better understand how Born to be Awesome is making a difference in the lives of women, girls, and communities through initiatives in menstrual health, education, and empowerment.

A Generous Donation at Miracle House

One of the highlights of their visit was a stop at Miracle House, a Needy Children’s Home in Limuru. Here, the Wandering Women’s group made an incredible donation: a whole year’s supply of sanitary pads and innerwear for each of the girls, along with boxers for the boys. This thoughtful gesture will help ensure the children have access to the necessary hygiene products, allowing them to continue their education and daily activities with confidence and dignity.

The children, staff, and management at Miracle House expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the generous donation, which significantly impacts their lives and well-being. Born to be Awesome and the Wandering Women group’s collaboration has made a lasting difference in the lives of these young children, and the gratitude from the hosts speaks volumes about the importance of such gestures.

Empowering Communities at Kiboino Mixed Secondary School

The Wandering Women group didn’t stop at Miracle House – they continued their journey to Kiboino Mixed Secondary School in Kabarnet, where they made another significant donation. The group provided water storage tanks, computers, a year’s supply of sanitary pads, innerwear and boxers, as well as foodstuffs. These resources are crucial in supporting the school’s infrastructure and ensuring that students have access to clean water, educational tools, and nutritious meals.

Promoting Menstrual Health and Hygiene

At both Miracle House and Kiboino Mixed Secondary School, Ms. Jemimah Nyarondia, the Founder of Born to be Awesome, conducted an insightful menstrual hygiene and health talk. The sessions were well-received, incorporating not only students but also parents, both men and women in the community. This inclusive approach helped address menstrual health issues and provided the necessary knowledge for families and communities to support the girls and women in their lives. The talks emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene, dispelling myths and stigma surrounding it while promoting healthy, dignified practices.

Looking Ahead: Future Engagements and Collaboration

The visit ended on a high note with both Miracle House and Kiboino Mixed Secondary School requesting further support and engagement in the future. Born to be Awesome is committed to maintaining these valuable connections and will continue working closely with the Wandering Women group, along with other well-wishers, to ensure that their impact grows and reaches even more communities in need.

Through the generosity of the Wandering Women, the spirit of kindness and empowerment has spread, leaving a lasting legacy of change. Born to be Awesome remains grateful for this partnership and the tremendous support it brings to its mission of promoting menstrual health, empowering women and girls, and creating a supportive, inclusive environment for all.

We look forward to future collaborations and continuing to make a meaningful impact, one step at a time.
