Born to be Awesome Initiative in its commitment to championing for menstrual hygiene and women empowerment is excited to announce the commencement of production for sustainable menstrual health solutions in the Mount Elgon region.
We embarked on a transformative initiative towards the end of 2023: the production of reusable menstrual pads. Equipped with sewing machines and essential materials, alongside comprehensive training for local women and girls, we began a journey of empowerment and impact.
The process of developing our reusable menstrual pads involves careful consideration of materials and design to ensure effectiveness, comfort, and sustainability. We collaborated with local experts and community members to identify the most suitable soft fabric and refine the pad’s shape and size for optimal comfort and absorbency. Through continuous testing and feedback sessions, and in conformance to the United Nations Technical Specifications for Reusable Menstrual Pads, we have refined our design to create a product that meets the unique needs of women and girls in our region.
Crafting these reusable menstrual pads not only provides a practical solution but also promotes environmental sustainability through washing cycles, reducing waste and resource consumption.
Moreover, their affordability compared to disposable pads significantly benefits the underprivileged. By offering a cost-effective alternative, we empower women and girls to manage their menstrual health without financial strain, ensuring that no one is disadvantaged. In doing so, we foster a more equitable and inclusive society, where access to essential menstrual hygiene products is not a privilege but a fundamental right.
The completed menstrual pads and hygiene products will be distributed to extremely needy girls and women in our region. Moreover, through potential sales, we aim to achieve sustainability, with proceeds reinvested into community projects and providing fair compensation for the women involved.
