Born to be Awesome Founder Invited to UAE-SPF Project Launch

On 4th December 2024, Ms. Jemimah Nyarondia, the visionary founder of Born to be Awesome, was honored to be among the distinguished guests invited to attend the official launch of the Accelerating Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment through Gender-Responsive Procurement Project in Kenya (UAE-SPF). The event took place at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, and was organized by UN Women Kenya, in partnership with the Government of Kenya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Accompanying Ms. Nyarondia was Cynthia Risper Akoth, the program coordinator of Born to be Awesome, who plays a vital role in overseeing the implementation of the organization’s projects aimed at empowering women and girls.

This prestigious project, aimed at promoting Gender-Responsive Procurement (GRP), seeks to empower women economically by creating more opportunities for women-owned businesses to participate in procurement processes, both in the public and private sectors. The UAE-SPF project also supports the Government-led Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) program, which reserves 30% of public procurement opportunities for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

Ms. Nyarondia’s invitation to this landmark event is a testament to her ongoing work and commitment to empowering women and girls through Born to be Awesome, an organization that has made strides in promoting menstrual health, gender equality, and women empowerment in underprivileged communities. Through initiatives that include menstrual hygiene education, sanitary pad distribution, advocacy against gender-based violence, and women empowerment programs, Born to be Awesome aligns with the broader goals of the UAE-SPF project.

At the event, Ms. Nyarondia and Ms. Akoth had the opportunity to engage with global and national leaders, policy-makers, and stakeholders committed to gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. This platform further strengthens their organization’s commitment to advocating for women’s access to economic opportunities and continues to raise awareness of the challenges faced by women and girls in Kenya.

Born to be Awesome remains dedicated to ensuring that women and girls are empowered to achieve their full potential, in alignment with the UAE-SPF project’s vision of building a more inclusive economy for women in Kenya.
